What is glare? How do we avoid it?
Glare is the excessive brightness or intense light that causes discomfort or difficulty in seeing. It can occur when a bright light source, such as sunlight, artificial light, or reflections, is present in the field of view. Glare can be annoying, distracting, and potentially dangerous, as it can impair visibility and cause eye strain or even temporary blindness.
To avoid glare, there are several things you can do:
- Adjust lighting: Proper lighting is key to minimizing glare. If you are working indoors, make sure that your lighting is diffuse and indirect. If you are working outside, try to avoid facing directly into the sun.
- Use anti-glare coatings: Anti-glare coatings can be applied to eyeglasses, computer screens, and other surfaces to reduce glare.
- Position yourself properly: Position yourself in a way that minimizes glare. For example, if you are working on a computer, position the screen perpendicular to windows and avoid placing lamps behind your computer.
- Wear sunglasses: Sunglasses with polarized lenses can help to reduce glare when you are outside.
- Take breaks: If you are working on a task that requires you to focus on a bright object or screen for an extended period, take frequent breaks to rest your eyes and reduce eye strain.
