Write short note on CFL

CFL stands for Compact Fluorescent Lamp. It is a type of energy-efficient lighting that uses fluorescent technology to produce light. CFLs are designed to replace traditional incandescent light bulbs and offer several advantages over them, including longer life, lower energy consumption, and lower heat output.

CFLs work by passing an electric current through a gas-filled tube, causing the gas to emit ultraviolet light. This light interacts with a phosphorescent coating on the inside of the tube, producing visible light. CFLs use about 75% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, and can last up to ten times longer, making them a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly lighting option.

CFLs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can be used in most standard light fixtures. They are available in different color temperatures, from warm white to cool daylight, and can be dimmed in some cases. However, CFLs do contain small amounts of mercury, which requires special handling for disposal to prevent environmental damage.
